TEACHER BIO

Kandi Steinke

I am the 1st Grade teacher and Reading Specialist for the Alma School District. I taught 20 years at the neighboring school of Gilmanton before starting in Alma. I love the school climate of a small district where I am able to know all of the children! I have been married to my husband, Alan, for 40 plus years. We were blessed with our two daughters, Meghan and Morgyn, who also graduated from Alma. We were doubly blessed with our three precious grandsons as well!!

I received my degree in education at Winona State University majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education. After working at Alma Schools, I furthered my education by obtaining a Master’s Degree in Reading and getting licensed as a Reading Specialist.

I love to read and am always in the middle of a new book! I enjoy crafting, and one of my latest interests is gardening and canning! I also love all sports, especially football and college volleyball.

I have a wonderful history with this school district as my mother and father both attended Alma Schools. My husband and I, our daughters, and now our grandsons are proud students of Alma Area Schools! My mom, Donna Herold and my aunt Marilyn Markey, were both educators in this District, and I always wanted to continue that tradition! I love our school climate and knowing the students and their families. Everyone truly cares about these kids here, and we take a lot of pride in knowing we all have a part in developing these students!
