On Tuesday, December 9th, Buffalo County Partnership Council (BCPC) held their annual 10th grade day. Students in the class of 2028 from Alma, Cochrane-Fountain City, Mondovi, and Gilmanton all came together at Mondovi High School to learn about the impacts of distracted driving and dating violence prevention. The guest speaker was Tom Goeltz from the Distracted Driving Survivors Network.
The BCPC Safety and Wellness Day began with a complimentary breakfast of cinnamon rolls and milk, provided by the Mondovi BCPC members. The students then gathered in the gymnasium, where the program commenced with a powerful and impactful presentation by Tom Goeltz. He shared his personal tragedy of losing his daughter and unborn grandson due to distracted driving, strongly urging the students to reflect on the serious consequences of their decisions while operating a vehicle.
Following the presentation, the students transitioned into a series of rotations focused on preventing and identifying unhealthy relationship patterns. These activities included the Alma BCPC leading communication scenarios, where students identified positive or negative communication skills. The BCPC leaders then presented scenarios that required students to categorize relationship situations as healthy, unhealthy, or abusive. Finally, small group discussions were held to clarify the principles of proper consent. The day concluded with all groups reconvening in the gym. Thank you to Mondovi and all the BCPC members for making this crucial educational day possible!
