Silas Myren has been selected as the student of the week. Silas is a busy 8th-grader at school and at home. He enjoys the small class size at school because he gets to know his peers. At home, he farms on his parents' farm. His parents are Todd and Abby, and he has four siblings: Emma, Spencer, Elle, and Esther. Along with farming, Silas is a part of the local 4H and Alma's FFA. After high school, he plans to take over the family farm.

In Mrs, Gray-Hurlburts 11th and 12th grade Science class today, Nurse Katie came in with the pig lungs! We bought these lungs this fall through grant funding, and they are a great hands-on tool to learn about lung health. One set is "healthy" and the other is "unhealthy". We watched a video, reviewed the respiratory cycle, and then took turns inflating the lungs and examining them! It was also a good reminder about taking care of our lungs and never vaping or using tobacco!

ALMA HIGH SCHOOL WILL HOST THE DISTRICT 121 SOLO AND ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL ON SATURDAY, APRIL 6.
WAUNAKEE, Wis. (March 20, 2024) – Students from area schools will participate in a Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) sanctioned District Solo & Ensemble Music Festival hosted at Alma High School on Saturday, April 6, 2024. During the festival, which is free and open to the public, students will perform vocal and instrumental solos, duets, trios and small ensembles before an adjudicator. The festival will run from 8 am to 2:30 pm.
WSMA music festivals annually attract thousands of students from middle, junior high and high schools throughout Wisconsin. The festival will draw students from a number of area schools, including Alma High School, Alma Junior High School, Cochrane-Fountain City High School, Gilmanton High School, and Pepin High School. Joan Draxler-Ruff, music director from Alma High School, will be serving as the festival manager.
“WSMA is proud to support music educators as we work together to provide quality music education experiences for students. Our long-standing festival programs encourage well-rounded musicians who develop deeper understanding through performance preparation that culminates in comprehensive feedback from a qualified adjudicator. Opportunities for reflection and consideration of new ideas is invaluable for musical growth,” said WSMA Executive Director Laurie Fellenz.
WSMA music festivals support school music programs as part of a comprehensive education by encouraging the study of quality music literature; motivating students to prepare and perform to the best of their abilities; improving students’ understanding of music literature and concepts (performance through understanding) and providing a performance assessment to improve individual and group achievement.
For more information on WSMA, go to www.wsmamusic.org.

Gavin Weaver has been elected student of the week this week. Gavin is in the tenth grade and is in many sports including basketball, baseball, and bowling. Gavin is son of Wes and Terra Weaver and brother of Riley Weaver. He loves Alma High school, but one thing he would change at the school would be to get a new baseball field. His favorite teacher is Mr. Killian because he makes him laugh all the time. If he had a choice though he would have Ryan Reynolds as a Phy Ed teacher. After high school, Gavin wants to be a diesel mechanic. Congratulations Gavin!
