The National Honor Society at Alma High School received a $350 donation to support Arbor Day activities focused on giving back to the community and promoting environmental awareness. NHS students chose to teach elementary students about the importance of flowers and how they support nature and pollinators. Members volunteered their time to help elementary classes plant flowers in personal planters that students could take home and continue growing.
In addition to working with younger students, NHS members also planted a tree at Rieck's Lake Park as part of the community’s Arbor Day celebration. Congratulations to our Alma High School graduate, Isabella Olson, for being the winner of the Best Dam Day Art Contest. Her artwork will be shown on the 2026 Best Dam Day Shirts. Isabella's artwork and other artworks submitted will be shown in the town during The Best Dam Day. Congrats to all of these artists!

The Alma Auxiliary hosted a poster contest for students in Grade 5. Congratulations to Ella, Jayce, and Tessa whose posters were selected as the top 3. The Auxiliary presented awards to the winners and dollar bills and poppies to the whole class.
Yesterday at the Dairyland 18-hole conference meet, the Alma-Pepin Eagles finished third overall. Wil Jumbeck was named second team all conference, Trenton Krzoska was named first team all conference, and Anders Johansen was the overall conference individual champion. Congrats on your amazing work!
This week's student of the week is Celia DeGroot, an eighth grader, daughter of Skylar and Nicole DeGroot, and sister to Marcella. Some of Celia's favorite hobbies include basketball, reading, and spending time with her mom. She loves going to the beach and hanging out with her friends. The thing that Celia is most proud of this school year is keeping her grades up and achieving high honors. During the school day, she looks forward to English with her favorite teacher, Mr. Hoolihan, because he always makes sure they are getting what they need to succeed. Lastly, Celia's favorite school lunch is Pizza Boats. Congratulations, Celia, and keep up the amazing work!
This week's Student of the Week is Finnian Smith. In school, his favorite class is Social Studies, and playing outside for recess. When he isn't out on the field, he’s likely at home hanging out with his brother Josh and their squad of pets, Ralphie, Gus, and Daisy. Finnian is a total creative at heart; he loves drawing, cartoons, and movies. His favorite school lunch is pizza, and if he had to choose one superpower, it would be web-slinging like Spiderman. He has summer plans to help his parents, Marcy and Matt, at the Stone Barn! When he grows up, he wants to be a famous sports player or an actor. Congrats to Finnian Smith on being Student of the Week!

Our second graders had an amazing day exploring the Alma community! We visited the Alma Public Library, Bank of Alma, Buffalo County Sheriff’s Department, Alma Veterinary Clinic, Alma Fire Department, and EMT services while learning about the people who help our community every day. The Pepin-Alma Junior High Golf Team had a meet in Whitehall on Tuesday, May 5th. Many of these athletes performed well. Specifically, Izaak Mann shot a 42, which placed him in a tie for first place. The team of Izaak Mann, Collin Henthron, Jameson Sterry, and Finley Bredow took third as a team with a score of 195. Lastly, Jameson Sterry is pictured after his amazing Eagle shot from 120 yards out. Congrats to all of these young athletes!
Our 4th graders wrapped up an incredible round of Math Inquiry Projects in the lab, and WOW… the creativity, problem solving, and perseverance they showed was amazing!
Students planned, designed, measured, built, revised, and problem-solved their way through projects completely driven by their own interests and ideas. From sports stadiums and rodeos to horse pens, gaming setups, mini classrooms, salons, bedrooms, and original games. Every project looked different because every learner followed their own path.
Throughout the process, students practiced real-world math skills like measurement, geometry, spatial reasoning, planning, budgeting materials, and precision building while also building durable skills like collaboration, resilience, creativity, and independence.
One of the best parts? Watching students navigate challenges on their own, rethink designs, make adjustments, and take true ownership of their learning. The lab was full of teamwork, critical thinking, and proud moments.

This week's Student of the Week is Gunner Eckelberg. Gunner is a 5th grader who loves learning about social studies, especially in Mr. Rolbecki’s class. His favorite color is blue, and his favorite school lunch is pizza. At recess, you can usually find Gunner playing four-square with his friends. Outside of school, he enjoys playing hockey and riding his bike. When he grows up, Gunner hopes to become a hockey player. He has two dogs named Georgia and Shelby, and if he could have any superpower, he would choose super speed. One of his favorite school activities was participating in the wax museum, where he portrayed Roberto Clemente. Gunner is the son of Molli and Josh and has a sibling named Paisley. Congratulations, Gunner, keep up the good work!
Congratulations to Savannah Danzinger on being this week’s student of the week! She is the daughter of Stefanie and Patrick and has two siblings, Tessa and McKena. One of her favorite school lunches is a cheeseburger, and her favorite teacher is Mrs. J because she encourages her to try new things. Band is also one of her favorite classes because of the people she sits next to. In her free time, she enjoys hobbies such as four-wheeling, snowmobiling, and ropes courses. She also enjoys playing volleyball because she likes being part of a team. Looking ahead, she plans to attend a two-year college to become a veterinary technician. Congratulations, Savannah!
