The 3rd-5th grade strategy club members had a special guest on Friday! Mr. Noll, Richie and Henry’s grandpa, came to teach our club about cribbage and the strategy that goes into playing the game. We can’t wait for him and Grandma Noll to come back in two weeks to show us more!

This week, 2nd graders read Help! A Story about Friendship—where a mouse learns even a snake can be a good friend!

To make the story come alive, Mrs. Ottum brought in her pet hognose snake to meet the class. What a fun way to learn about friendship and helping each other!

Alma Area Schools hosted their fourth annual Community Fest at the Rod and Gun Club on Sunday, September 7th, and it was a day filled with fun for families, students, and staff. The event featured bubbles, rocket-making, bingo, crafts, and photo booths, providing everyone with plenty of activities to enjoy.
One of the highlights was Sheila Huber’s pumpkin succulent kits, which were a big hit with students, staff, and community. Local businesses and organizations also joined in to make the day special. Happy Hub, Alma FFA, Rivermen Industries, Nelson Fire Department, Alma Ambulance, and Riverland Energy were some of the organizations that provided us with a little insight into how they contribute to our community.
At the community fest, there was a free hot dog meal along with cookies and chips. The school even brought out its own ice cream machine, which was one of the main attractions. The ice cream was such a big hit that when a mom and a daughter came to get some, the mom shared the story of how her daughter had just had a dream about twist ice cream. The mother then stated, “Thanks for making her dreams come true”.
The community is especially grateful to the Rod and Gun Club for providing their facility. Community Fest is quickly becoming a tradition that celebrates the support, teamwork, and spirit of Alma Area Schools. Thank you to all who attended and helped out to make this event a special day for the whole community.

Alma junior, Alyssa Johnson “AJ”, is this week's student of the week. AJ is the daughter of Jenny and Beau Johnson and sister to Addison and Allison. After high school, she plans to attend CVTC to become a fire medic. Currently on the right track, AJ is taking a Fireman 101 class through CVTC. During her free time, you can find Alyssa working on her family farm or hunting. AJ is also a part of the school’s FFA, where she serves as the current president, following in the footsteps of her older sister, Addison. During school, she loves her fourth hour class, Human Biology, with her favorite teacher, Mr. LeCaptain. Alyssa loves the small school environment that Alma offers. Keep up the good work.

Mr. Brecka, from the DNR, came in and got talk with the 5th grade for their conservation unit in science. We put up different species of fish all around the classroom and they had to work as a team to classify the fish. They were given a Wisconsin fishing booklet to help them determine which fish matched the appearance and description. They had a blast and almost every group matched 100% of the fish to their pictures. I’d say we have a whole bunch of fishing experts and enthusiasts in 5th grade!
