Congrats to the Pepin-Alma dance team on making it to the state championship. Good Luck!

Student of the Week
Our lucky kindergarten student, Rhett Blim, won our “student of the week” title. Rhett is five years old and will be turning six on May 16. Rhett lives in a full house with his sister Paisley, a sixth grader at Alma, and his five pets. Rhett has two dogs and three kittens. Rhett’s favorite animal is zombie kittens, which is why he has so many at home. At home, he loves to learn the alphabet with his mom. Rhett’s favorite activity would be to go sledding outside. After Rhett is out of high school, he wants to become a construction worker and help take cars off the road. Rhett loves Snicker Bars and Batman. Congratulations Rhett on becoming the Alma Student of the Week.

The final Whitehall VEX Robotics competition saw students from 38 teams hailing from many area schools (Black River, Rice Lake, Menomonie etc.) to compete for top spots. Students from the Alma Elementary and Alma Middle School were among those. Pictured here are Jack Loewenhagen, Emmitt Inglett, Abby Ruff and Collin Walstrom.
The students spent the entire day 7AM to 5PM on January 27th in many team work alliances, skills runs and ‘coded robot’ runs. In addition, the teams were interviewed about their engineering and their design process from the season of building. Each team was also judged on an engineering notebook. The VEX Challenge is very thorough.
While the student teams from Alma didn’t qualify for state at this competition, they stayed determined to use the whole day to improve: refining their code, practicing driving skills, adjusting the controller/’bot’ and collaborating with partners to devise a strategy to earn points.
Besides competing for a top spot, VEX competitions are also a great way to expose students to valuable soft skills like communication, collaboration and time-management in a fun and authentic way. The VEX Robotics competition prepares students to become future innovators and many past participants report an increased interest in STEM subject areas and pursuing STEM-related careers. Thank you to ASHLEY INDUSTRIES and the Whitehall School District for partnering with Alma to keep this program thriving! Also, thank you to the dedicated parents for your support.

Congratulations to our Regional Champion and State Qualifying Dance team. The team will compete in the State Dance Competition next Friday in LaCrosse. More details to come

Students in the OST program Rivermen Quest have been learning about dog sledding. We even got to meet (via Zoom) dog sled musher, Jonah Bacon. Jonah is a graduate of Alma and lives in Alaska. Thank you, Jonah, for sharing your knowledge of dog sledding and letting us meet your dogs!

We had an opportunity to learn about the history of the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile and take a look at this historic vehicle. Thanks to Sam Benish (aka Sammer Sausage) and her trusty sidekick Hammy Sammy for this opportunity.

"Oh I wish I were an Oscar Mayer Wiener"...was the song the first grade class treated Samantha Benish (a former Alma student) and her partner Hammy Sammy to today! What a treat to see the wienermobile up close! Thank you for the wonderful tour!

Mark your calendar for Saturday, February 17! Why? Because that is when the Big Band Dance will be at Alma High School. The jazz band has been working very hard to bring you a variety of dance music from your favorite swing charts and ballads, to your favorite polkas and waltzes. The Big Band Dance was started over 40 years ago by Bill Simon, and it has lasted the test of time because of the outstanding support of the community and commitment of the students. This is a family event for all ages and a great way to see how awesome our Alma musicians are. Mark down 7:00 pm on February 17 for an evening of fun, food, and dancing at Alma High School!

Lucky kids to have these sledding hills!

The Alma Media Team will be streaming tonight's boys varsity basketball game vs Eleva-Strum Cardinals. The stream will at 7:00 pm. https://www.youtube.com/@AlmaMediaTeam/streams

2nd graders had "snow" much fun today learning about snowflakes. We learned Wilson Bentley who was the first person to take photographs of snowflakes. We then created snowflakes and made snow.

Student of Week
The student of the week this week is Leah Green. Leah is a two sport athlete playing both Basketball and Softball. She really likes the many opportunities in our school. In the school she admires all the teachers, but Mr. Killian is her favorite. Outside of school, her favorite thing to do is go on the river with her dad, who is her biggest role model. She is the daughter of Jessica Gusa and Scott Green and also has four siblings. When Leah is older, she wants to go on to college to be a surgeon. Congratulations Leah!

Pre-K students are learning about partners and patterns. Today we worked on AB patterns with shapes and colors. Later this week we will be doing AAB, ABB, and ABC patterns!
Learning to work with someone can be hard, so we did a little practicing today.
