On Wednesday, a group of students from Alma High School visited the Omni Center in Onalaska, WI, to take part in a hands-on career day and industry showcase. The event offered an interactive platform for students to explore a variety of trades through demonstrations and activities led by local employers and technical college representatives. The showcase connected students directly with professionals in future career fields. This experience not only gave the students insight into potential career paths but also supported efforts to strengthen the future workforce by engaging young people in the trades early on. Thank you to Mr. Reed for taking these students to such an enriching experience.

This year marked the first time the Dairyland Conference hosted a Senior Scholar-Athlete Banquet, celebrating student-athletes who excel both in the classroom and in sports. One male and one female representative from each school in the conference were honored for their outstanding academic performance and athletic achievements. Congratulations to Finley Noll for being selected as Alma’s 2025 Senior Scholar-Athlete!

Reminder: Storytime at the public library will be held tomorrow, May 1 at 4pm.

Last Saturday, the Alma junior class presented Hawaiian Nights Prom. The court, which consisted of 12 participants, was presented to the crowd at 8:30. Bo Schams and Tori Creighton were crowned king and queen. The dance lasted until 11 o'clock when the students were shuttled to Club 10 in Durand. Club 10 had pizza, salad, breadsticks, and a dessert bar for the students to munch on. Two golf simulators, six bowling alleys, and a dance hall kept the students entertained until 2 am when they were transported back to the school. At the school, the raffle drawings were presented by the After Prom Committee. There were 19 prizes and 20 cash prizes for the students to win. The students ended their night around 3 am. It was a fun night filled with memories that will last a lifetime.

Mrs. Glander's room is filled with even more noise and cuteness. Starting on April 7th, the fourth-grade class adopted 48 unhatched chicken eggs. While they are learning about the life cycle of a butterfly, Mrs. Glander thought it would be a good idea to allow the students to watch chickens and butterflies grow. It takes 28 days of incubation before the chicks begin to hatch, which is why they just started hatching on Sunday. Currently, the class has 13 chickens! After a fun week with the chicks, the 4-6th-grade students have the opportunity to adopt them and bring them home.

This week’s student of the week is first grader, Kavien Heller. Kavien is the son of Kevin and Leanne; he has three older siblings, Olivia, Katrina, and Kainen. During school, Kavien enjoys the subject of math, specifically when they add and subtract. Kavien says he has two best friends, Flint Jesse and Tori Creighton. When he is older, he wants to help pets and become a veterinarian. Consequently, Kavien has three dogs, Chief, DeDe, and Thor. After school hours, Kavien loves to go onto his tablet to watch YouTube. Kavien can’t wait for summertime when he gets to play his favorite sport, tee-ball. Congratulations and keep up the good work.

This week’s high school Student of the Week is sophomore, Alyssa Johnson. She has an older sister, Addison, and a younger sister, Allison. Her parents are Beau and Jenny Johnson. Alyssa says her favorite subject is shop because she has the opportunity to create hands-on projects. Even though she is busy in school with basketball, volleyball, and trap, Alyssa also enjoys hunting, fishing and farming on her own time. When asked what advice she would give to next year’s freshmen, Alyssa said, “be kind to everyone.” She is looking forward to next school year because she is one more year closer to graduation and becoming a part time firefighter and welder. Congratulations Alyssa!
