Mr. Brecka, from the DNR, came in and got talk with the 5th grade for their conservation unit in science. We put up different species of fish all around the classroom and they had to work as a team to classify the fish. They were given a Wisconsin fishing booklet to help them determine which fish matched the appearance and description. They had a blast and almost every group matched 100% of the fish to their pictures. I’d say we have a whole bunch of fishing experts and enthusiasts in 5th grade!

This week’s elementary Student of the Week is, kindergartener, Ruby Reidt. Ruby says she has “two sisters and no brothers.” Her favorite food is spaghetti, especially with the parmesan cheese on top. Ruby’s favorite class is Phy Ed because she enjoys the games they play. Outside of school, Ruby likes to play outside, build fairy houses, and hang out with her friends. When she gets older, she wants to be a police officer because her sister dressed up as a police officer for Halloween, and Ruby thought it was cool. Congrats, Ruby, on being this week's elementary Student of the Week!

This week’s high school Student of the Week is Sophomore, Josh Smith. He enjoys classes with his favorite teacher, Mr. Engstrand, because of his sense of humor and the good stories he tells. Outside of school, Josh enjoys spending his free time playing the video game called Siege and working at the Stone Barn. Josh is eager to get back on the diamond this spring, where he plays in right field. At home, he enjoys the company of his three dogs: Ruffy, Gus, and Daisy. Josh also enjoys indulging in his favorite meal, biscuits and gravy. Congrats, Josh, on being this week’s high school Student of the Week!

Hope for Caiden: Standing Strong Together

A known legend of Eagle athletics, Caiden Haake, was recently given the difficult news that he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. During his time as an Eagle, Caiden has a wealth of sports accolades, including: 4x Football Conference Champion, 2x Football State Finals, 2x Football All-State, 2x Basketball All-Conference, Basketball Conference Champion, all-time Pepin points and rebounds leader, and 3x Track and Field All-Conference. Lastly, Caiden was the State Champion in Discus. Even though Caiden's record on the field and court was abundant, his character was his greatest quality.

On Caiden’s 26th birthday, he started his battle with Leukemia. Caiden continued his chemotherapy with the company of his family by his side. On August 20th, Caiden had his last round of chemo and began waiting for the biopsy results. His results concluded that the treatment had killed some of the cancer, but not enough. In pursuit of eliminating more of the disease, he started his second treatment of chemotherapy.

Eagle Athletics would like to partner with our schools and communities for a fundraiser to assist the Haakes through this challenging time. Friday, September 26th, when the Eagles play C-FC, we would like to support Caiden Haake by raising awareness and supporting his fight through a 50/50 drawing and raffling off multiple large baskets and donations. There will also be rubber bracelets available that night. Below is a link to Caiden’s Crew T-Shirts that we would like as many fans as possible to wear to the game that Friday.

All proceeds will be donated to medical expenses and financial assistance, with any excess funds going to cancer research.

The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) awards nearly one million dollars in equipment grants to 19 school districts. Alma Schools was given $10,197! Funds will be used to purchase cardboard inventor kits and tools, vinyl cutters, 3D printers, industrial printers, and mobile workstations to enhance the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. In addition, the district will construct a fabrication laboratory for hands-on learning in engineering and manufacturing.

The Alma Area Schools would like to extend our gratitude to the Ye Old Schoolhouse Shoppe for a generous donation towards our fabrication lab. We used the donation to pay for the Roland Vinyl Cutter and Oracal Bundle. Our students will get great use out of the vinyl cutter and will utilize it to display their STEM skills. We are very grateful for the new addition to our fabrication lab.
