Mrs. Baab’s 3rd grade class is hosting a reading tournament. Each pair of students has a book they will read to another class. After the 3rd grader has read their books, they will then ask the listeners which was their favorite. After votes are tallied, the favorite books will move further in the tournament. As the month goes on, the books will advance to The Elite Eight, Final Four, and then the most exciting, Championship round.
Stay tuned for weekly updates!!

This week's Elementary Student of the Week is third grader, Marcella Degroot. She is the daughter of Skylar and Nicole Degroot and has one sibling, Celia. She also has two dogs, Ruby and Murphy. Marcella thoroughly enjoys coming to school, especially when they are serving breakfast sandwiches, her favorite school lunch. The subject she most enjoys learning is writing, specifically, writing stories. Marcella enjoys it when the third graders get to type out their stories on their Chromebooks. Other than writing, her favorite class is VEX. She enjoys getting the opportunity to explore building robots. Marcella plays basketball, at recess, but also outside of school with her tournament team. Another sport Marcella is involved in is softball during the summer, but she is thrilled to have the opportunity to play volleyball next year! For Marcella, the best part of school is the opportunity to see her friends and learn something new every day—especially when it involves writing! Congratulations Marcella, and keep up the great work!

Alma High School’s Student of the Week is Freshman, Holten Ferholtz. He is the son of Jeremy and Danielle Ferholtz. Holten has one younger sister, a seventh grader, Jemma Ferholtz. At school, Holten enjoys his favorite class, shop, taught by his favorite teacher, Mr. Reed. Holten enjoys shop because of the hands-on learning style. During the fall, he enjoys his favorite sport, football. Outside of school and extracurriculars, Holten enjoys all seasons of fishing in his free time. After high school, Holten would like to become an entrepreneur. As an entrepreneur, his company would offer multiple services in different industries.
