Update
This week’s Alma Elementary Student of The Week is third grader, Carter Larson. He is the only son of Adrian and Daren, and he has two older sisters, Olivia and Sophia. Carter also has two pets at home: Cooper, a black lab-wired hair-pointing griffon mix, and Walter, a Yorkie and Maltese mix. Carter’s favorite animal is a dog because they are very fluffy. Another one of his favorites is pizza, especially pepperoni. Getting to do many fun projects, Carter enjoys his favorite class art. Carter’s favorite teacher is Mrs. Baab because she is really nice. Outside of school, he enjoys playing baseball. To be just like his dad, when he is older, Carter wants to have a job working on cars. Congrats Carter on being this week’s Alma Elementary Student of the Week!

Three Alma FFA Teams Earn Spot at State Competition! Alma, WI – The Alma FFA chapter is celebrating the success of its hard working members, as three of its Career Development Teams have earned a spot at the State FFA competition! After a challenging day of competitions at Mid-State Technical College in Wisconsin Rapids, seven Alma FFA teams gave it their all across events such as Agronomy, Ag Mechanics, Forestry, Dairy Evaluation, Wildlife, Milk Quality, and Veterinary Science. Leading the charge to state are the Agronomy, Ag Mechanics, and Forestry teams. The Agronomy team, which earned a strong second-place finish, was led by senior Clayton Kegel, who placed fourth individually. He was supported by teammates Max Carothers, Kainen Heller, and Bo Schams. The Ag Mechanics team also secured second place, with sophomore Jackson Reed finishing tenth individually. His teammates, Kemper Armstrong, Reese Soderburg, and Cole McQuiston, played a key role in the team's success. In the Forestry competition, Alma placed third, with Eli Krause leading the team and finishing fourth individually, alongside teammates Anders Johansen, Wil Jumbeck, and Garrett Krause. While other teams didn’t advance, their efforts were commendable, including the Dairy Evaluation, Wildlife Management, Milk Quality, and Veterinary Science teams. Congratulations to all members for their dedication and hard work! The Agronomy, Ag Mechanics, and Forestry teams will now compete at the State FFA CDE competition later this month. Best of luck to these talented students as they represent Alma FFA at the state level! Alyssa Johnson, Alma FFA Reporter

In this hands-on lab, the fourth grade students explored the relationship between potential energy, kinetic energy, and gravity by designing and testing their own roller coasters. Using materials such as foam tubing and marbles, students constructed tracks with hills, loops, and drops to observe how energy transforms throughout the ride. At the highest points of the track, the marble had the most potential energy, stored due to its position. As the marble rolled down, gravity pulled it downward, converting the potential energy into kinetic energy, or the energy of motion. The sttudents analyzed how the height of the hills affected the speed of the marble and whether it had enough energy to complete loops and turns. Through experimentation, students learned how energy transfers and how friction can reduce motion. By modifying their designs, they worked to create the fastest and most exciting roller coaster while deepening their understanding of physics in action!

This week’s Alma High School’s Student of the Week is eighth grader, Lillian Streveler. Her favorite class is FACE (Family and Consumer Education) because she enjoys cooking. Lillian’s favorite teacher is Miss K. because of the teaching style. Next year, Lillian will be in high school; she is most excited to do her favoite sport: dance. Her favorite styles of dance are lyrical and hip-hop, but she is most excited for kick in high school. In her free time, Lillian likes to crochet. Congratulations Lillian on being this week’s Alma High School Student of the Week.

This week's Student of the Week is Kindergartener, Benjamin OIson. Ben is the son of Matt and Kim Olson, and he has 3 sisters: Lily, Isabella, and Emma. Out of school, Ben loves to watch movies and snuggle up with his big monkey stuffed animal. In school, Ben’s favorite thing to learn about is science. When Ben is older, he wants to be a scientist and work in a lab to test venom. Ben’s favorite thing he’s learned this year in Mrs. Muller’s class is planets, especially Pluto, which is the planet he wants to go to when he's older. Lastly, if Ben could travel anywhere in the world, he would go to South America to see very dangerous animals and tame them.

Lower Elementary Parents! PIE is looking for some extra help AND a new President for the 2025-26 school year! If you're interested in leading this group, but you would feel more comfortable working in a collaborative team, we encourage you to find a friend/partner and act as "co-presidents" together. If you're interested in being a member, but not an officer, we would love to have you, as well! Many of our members will be aging out of PIE soon, as their children move to the high school wing of the building. There's concern that, without new member involvement and new leadership, we won't be able to continue what we do in the long term. This group is SO important to our little school and one of the things that makes it special! Our next meeting will be held at 5:30pm on Wednesday, April 9th at Walker's Silvermoon. Please join us! If you have any questions, please contact Sara Bowler at 707.501.8840 or sarakmitchbowler@gmail.com.
