This week's Highschool Student of the Week is 7th grader, Kori Gusa. He is the youngest son of Kelly and Jason. Kori’s favorite part of being on the high school end of the building is seeing his older brother, Jaxon, every day. Even though Kori would like to say his favorite subject in school is recess, he says math is his number one. Kori gets excited for Fridays because that's when the lunch ladies like to serve pizza. Outside of school, he is very active. He participates in baseball, basketball, football, and has a specialty for Bowling. If Kori could give advice to upcoming middle schoolers it would be, “Get good grades!” While he still has a few years left, Kori plans on working for the DNR after high school. Congratulations Kori Gusa!

Three Alma FFA Teams Earn Spot at State Competition!
Alma, WI – The Alma FFA chapter is celebrating the success of its hard working members, as three of its Career Development Teams have earned a spot at the State FFA competition! After a challenging day of competitions at Mid-State Technical College in Wisconsin Rapids, seven Alma FFA teams gave it their all across events such as Agronomy, Ag Mechanics, Forestry, Dairy Evaluation, Wildlife, Milk Quality, and Veterinary Science.
Leading the charge to state are the Agronomy, Ag Mechanics, and Forestry teams. The Agronomy team, which earned a strong second-place finish, was led by senior Clayton Kegel, who placed fourth individually. He was supported by teammates Max Carothers, Kainen Heller, and Bo Schams. The Ag Mechanics team also secured second place, with sophomore Jackson Reed finishing tenth individually. His teammates, Kemper Armstrong, Reese Soderburg, and Cole McQuiston, played a key role in the team's success. In the Forestry competition, Alma placed third, with Eli Krause leading the team and finishing fourth individually, alongside teammates Anders Johansen, Wil Jumbeck, and Garrett Krause.
While other teams didn’t advance, their efforts were commendable, including the Dairy Evaluation, Wildlife Management, Milk Quality, and Veterinary Science teams. Congratulations to all members for their dedication and hard work!
The Agronomy, Ag Mechanics, and Forestry teams will now compete at the State FFA CDE competition later this month. Best of luck to these talented students as they represent Alma FFA at the state level!

In this hands-on lab, the fourth grade students explored the relationship between potential energy, kinetic energy, and gravity by designing and testing their own roller coasters. Using materials such as foam tubing and marbles, students constructed tracks with hills, loops, and drops to observe how energy transforms throughout the ride.
At the highest points of the track, the marble had the most potential energy, stored due to its position. As the marble rolled down, gravity pulled it downward, converting the potential energy into kinetic energy, or the energy of motion. The sttudents analyzed how the height of the hills affected the speed of the marble and whether it had enough energy to complete loops and turns.
Through experimentation, students learned how energy transfers and how friction can reduce motion. By modifying their designs, they worked to create the fastest and most exciting roller coaster while deepening their understanding of physics in action!
